Understanding Engine Warning Lights — What They Mean

Modern vehicles have dozens of sensors feeding data to the ECU. When something is wrong, a warning light appears on your dashboard. Here are the most important ones.

Check Engine Light (CEL)

This amber light can indicate anything from a loose fuel cap to a failing catalytic converter. Do not ignore it — bring your car in for a diagnostic scan.

Oil Pressure Warning

A red oil can icon means dangerously low oil pressure. Stop the engine immediately and call us.

Battery / Charging Warning

If this light stays on while driving, your alternator or battery may be failing. You may have 20–30 minutes of electrical power left.

Temperature Warning

Overheating causes catastrophic engine damage. Pull over safely and wait for the engine to cool before adding coolant.
